On the town

The spouse and I brought some out-of-town friends to an infamous local bar/dance floor over the weekend, a place we regularly hit when we are out with a large group. Drinks are cheap, the dance floor is welcoming, and the tunes are predictable (80s, 90s, early 00s with some top 10 hits). A wide swath of groups hang out here and the out-of-town friends were a little out of their element. But the people watching is spectacular and though our friends didn't feel brave enough to get out on the dance floor (I spent a solid hour and a half dancing my butt off), I think they had some good laughs. Even some laughs at my expense.

So when I shared with other friends that we had gone to this infamous Pick-Up Bar, Cougar Bar, Train Wreck Bar, etc., reactions were mixed.  Ranging from "Awesome" to "That place is disgusting". The Pick-Up Bar brings out some visceral hate in a number of my friends. Why is the reaction to a place like this so all-over the board?

Am I missing other bars that have great dance floors where people of many ages and races are all dancing and having a great time? Where people are people-watching but without a lot of the posturing?  Where guys who behave badly get kicked out?  I'll admit there are some questionable conversations that you might overhear at a place like this... but nothing that is a public menace.
Let me know about the great places I'm missing out on, meanwhile, I'll still be holding down a booth at Victor's.
